Red River equivalents to Canson, Hahnemuehle, etc.?

Hello,

I am new to Piezography. Fortunately, I have some old Canson, Hahnemuehle, and Epson papers with which I can print my photographs using the provided curves and test QTR split toning. When I run out of these papers, I plan to print using Red River papers as substitutes for the more expensive brands. I have printed with Red River for years and hope to find or make curves for them, assuming I have the intellectual firepower to accomplish the latter. Until then, has anyone used the provided curves for other than their intended papers? Is RR Baryta like Canson’s or Hahnehuehle’s? Is it a fool’s errand?

Thanks very much,
George

Hi George,

If you have a spectro such as i1 you can create your own curves with PPETv2 which is sold here:
https://shop.inkjetmall.com/piezography-professional-edition-toolset-v2DL.html

Or you can have us produce customs for you here:
https://shop.inkjetmall.com/pro-custom-curves.html

The curves are quite specific to a inkjet receptor coating on a particular grade of paper. So it is not just trying to match a similar paper to the RR paper. Although go ahead and try that and you may find the results acceptable. If not - then custom curves the way to go.

Jon

Hi Jon,

Thanks for your reply. Yes, my first prints on RR baryta using a Canson curve were not stellar. Subsequent prints (from drum scans) made with the correct paper for the provided curves look better than the original silver gelatin.

Cheers,
George
