Precision and limiting

Hi Walker

I have a couple of questions about limiting for you

When selecting the last black before full black (in test strips) and last grey before full white (in the limiting target) for PiezoDN Pro, how critical is the selection? Should I be using a device to measure the density (?) or is being off by a couple of values not a problem. I’m guessing that the precision is not too important at this point because the next step after limiting is measuring a 129 target.

Second question - is there a point at which the limiting value is too low (e.g 230) that it will impact the curve development process, and I should choose a longer exposure time?

Thanks

Jon

It’s not critical. Just do it by eyeball.

I’ve gone all the way to about 150 before. When you do that though you need to make sure to smooth the limiting curve you are applying (when mocking it up in photoshop) otherwise you can get some weirdness happening. aka, make sure there aren’t too many sharp bends.

best,
Walker

Thanks, Walker. Your reply is, as always, useful and reassuring.
