L value noise level

Hi Walker,

I am attempting to quantify how much (if any) variation occurs in printing due to ink settling. I was recently on the road for 2 weeks and thought it would be a good opportunity to test since the 9900 only had on nozzle check done in my absence. So with regard to evaluating L values between test prints what amount would be considered standard variation (noise) and not a variation due to some other factor, like ink settling ?

Thanks,

Tom

It’s a bit in the eye of the beholder and there isn’t a scientific standard exactly but I generally go by +/- 3 or 4 L* values (for standard noise that occurs generally from humidity differences in the paper) from one verified linear target to the next. Things over that indicate a bit of settling.

best,
Walker

Thanks for that Walker, that puts alot in perspective
