Ink drops on print

For no apparent reason I’m starting to get random splatters of ink on my prints. I thought a cartridge might be leaking but even with a dry paper towel under the head it comes out completely dry and free of ink. Then the problem randomly disappears. Any ideas?

I see this when there is a lot of paper fiber gunk everywhere (whet with ink) especially on the cleaning pad. This can cause nozzle problems after cleans as well.

Take a look at the cleaning area, it may be filled with gunk
