Initial fill on a P900

I have an EU P900 and it has had color ink in it, I couldn’t find a way to trigger the initial fill to flush the inks. So, I have been trying to use the QTR flush images in calibration mode but the yellow seems very stubborn, and stains remain. The ink lines look like the color inks are gone but there must be some residuals around the print head that I can’t see. Should I use Piezo Flush on the yellow channel and keep printing flush images until I get pink and then keep repeating the process until the piezo ink replaces the pink? Or does someone know how to trigger the initial fill option on that printer? I also noticed that the QTR_Flush_images don’t necessarily align with the colors of the P900. I have been using the 10-ink purge file but was unsure if this file would miss certain cartridge lines. Thanks in advance.

I had this problem as well on a P900.

It did clear eventually using repeated printing of just the yellow channel.

I also used the power clean function initially, but that wastes ink out of all the channels.

I don’t know how to do the initial fill routine.

Mark

For current EPSON printer models, the required procedure for executing an Initial Ink Fill must be facilitated using the proprietary EPSON Service Adjustment Utility software. This utility provides the necessary control for this critical setup function.

Here it is for the SC-P700 and SC-P900 printers:

Please be aware that the EPSON Service Adjustment Utility is strictly a Windows-only application.

  • For macOS (OS X) Users: If you are operating on a Mac system, you will need to utilize a virtualization solution to run the Windows environment. You may consider downloading a free trial of a program like Parallels for macOS to create a functional Windows environment for running the utility.

It is crucial to understand that the EPSON Service Adjustment Utility software is designed for use by qualified EPSON service engineers. As a result, the software operates under the assumption that the user possesses technical expertise.

The utility generally does NOT provide standard user warnings for critical operational parameters, such as:

  • Low Ink Status: Warnings if the ink level on a cartridge chip is insufficient for the fill process.

  • Maintenance Limits: Warnings if the waste ink pad or maintenance tank has reached or exceeded its service limit.

Therefore, it is the user’s responsibility to verify that all printer components (especially ink and maintenance tanks) are adequately prepared before initiating the service procedure.

Rachel,

Thanks for the response. Trying to see if the tech people in my college have a PC I can borrow. In the meantime, I wanted to check back on a different part of my question. I noticed that the names of the QTR_Flush_images don’t necessarily align with the names of the cartridges of the P900. I have been using the 10-ink purge file but was unsure if this file would miss certain cartridge lines. The main questions: Are both Matte and Photo black being purged with the K-flush, does the GR and OR align with violet. I assume LK aligns with gray and LLK aligns with light gray but I wanted to double check on that as well. One other question, with the P900 do you need to reset the cartridges occasionally with a chip resetter. I am noticing in the status that these cartridges are counting down steadily (especially the yellow since I have been working double time to clear it) If it “runs out” will I not be able to use that chip anymore? With the Epson 3880 I have used in the past, the state of the ink chip never showed a decline. Thanks in advance.

These images are usually made by Roy Harrington and I do not know what RGB values he is using for QTR and the P900 and its new channels. Both blacks are able to print at the same time because they use different ink channels. So the target will need to be new.

It is a good question to post to him either privately or at his users group.
